Ingredients:
- ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
- ½ cup (100g) granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (2g) baking powder
- 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp (3g) salt
- 2 cups (300g) Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely diced
- ½ cup (60g) chopped walnuts
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp (30ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp (15ml) heavy cream
- ¼ tsp (1ml) vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- Place the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt it, then continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the butter foams and small brown specks appear at the bottom. Remove from heat immediately.
- In a large bowl, beat the browned butter with both brown and white sugars until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined—do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the finely diced Granny Smith apples and chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, heavy cream, and the additional vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled brownies.
